About

Isley Simone Reust is a German-American director, filmmaker, photographer, and musician based in the Westfjords of Iceland. Her work bridges the worlds of art, endurance, and environmental storytelling — capturing humanity’s relationship with the planet from the Arctic to the equator.

Through her production company, The Wild Arctic, Isley develops and directs documentary films set in some of the world’s most remote environments. Her upcoming projects include Longest Row, following a man’s 1,000-day attempt to row solo around the world; Bark Europa Chronicles, chronicling a 70-day tall ship voyage from Namibia to Brazil to Portugal; and East Greenland -Arctic Horizons, an intimate portrait of Arctic culture and resilience.

Isley also directed a behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of Ocean with Sir David Attenborough, filmed in West Point, Liberia, examining the human and ecological costs of overfishing along West Africa’s coast.

As a musician and film composer, Isley co-founded the cinematic pop band Spectacular Spectacular, known for its atmospheric soundscapes and emotional storytelling. Her compositions have appeared in Emmy-nominated productions and international films, blending her visual and musical worlds into a unified creative voice.

Isley’s work has been featured by National Geographic, Condé Nast Traveler, and Lonely Planet, and continues to explore the intersection of environment, identity, and endurance through powerful visual storytelling.
